Last month's puzzle June/10)

A few years ago I wanted to replace the flooring in my kitchen and the connected breakfast nook. I really liked a 12" by 12" tile, but the store didn't have enough of them. The salesman tried hard to get me to buy some 8" by 8" tiles that were $1 less per tile, but would have resulted in a total cost of $270 more than I would have paid for the 12" tiles. I settled on 9" by 9" tiles at $0.60 less per tile than the 12" squares, and paid $30 less than would have been the case if I had gone with the salesman's choice.

What is the total floor area I covered with these tiles?

216 square feet (31104 square inches)
